Sixteen high school girls basketball teams will travel to Fort Fairfield for the 8th Annual Girls “County” Basketball Shootout, to be held Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7.
Each team will play up to six games, with the first- and second-place teams in each of the four pools moving on to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
A consolation game matching the third- and fourth-place teams will also be played, giving each team a minimum of four games.
“This continues to be an outstanding tournament as we have some of the best teams in Class C and D set to play,” said Fort Fairfield coach Larry Gardner.
Teams from Caribou, Calais, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Washburn, Southern Aroostook, Mars Hill, Hodgdon, Shead, Easton, Limestone, Machias, Carleton North of Woodstock and Fort Fairfield will be competing.
“We have had huge crowds in the past and this year should be even more exciting with the best teams in Class D all showing up for this County Shootout,” Gardner added. “Fans will surely get an early look at next season’s top teams.”
Games will be played at the high school gym and the community center beginning at noon Friday. All spectators are welcome and admission is $5, which is good for all games both days.
