Happy 4th of July to everyone! This is always a busy week at HCGC with many friends and family in town. We hope to see you all this week at the golf course! The course is in terrific shape and will be open to the public all week. We are using tee times now at HCGC on a full-time basis. Since this is typically our busiest time of the year, we strongly encourage everyone to call ahead to book your tee time and reserve your spot on the first tee.
We do have a couple of events scheduled for this weekend with the annual Houlton High School Alumni Social on Friday evening from 4-7 p.m., followed by the Alumni Scramble on Saturday morning. The scramble is four-person teams and is open to everyone so come on out and join the fun! Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the scramble starts at 9 a.m. Call the Pro Shop at 532-2662 to sign up your team or to find a partner or two for this event.
We are getting into the heart of our tournament schedule for this summer as well. With the month of July comes the annual Club Championship Tournament. This is a match play tournament and the brackets have been posted for the Men’s divisions. In the Championship Flight, Porter Gervais is the top seed and the defending champion as he tries to repeat his accomplishments from last year. We are still taking sign ups for the Men’s “C” division, as well as for the Ladies and Junior divisions. Registration will end on Saturday, July 14 for these divisions and the match play brackets will be posted.
Be sure to join us at the club for “Championship Weekend” on July 28-29. The semifinal matches for every division will be held on Saturday morning with the finals following them up on Sunday morning. We will also be having the “3-Club Tourney” on Saturday afternoon as part of the festivities. This event is open to everyone and will begin at 3 p.m. We will be having a social hour and food specials after the tournament as well as music and dancing. We hope to see you there!
Both the men’s & ladies Twilight Leagues are also in full swing. On the men’s side, we have three teams that are off to a 4-0 start. Chris and Danny Williams currently hold the top overall spot, followed closely by our defending champs, Gabe Goodwin and Dan Peabody. Billy Dwyer and Ted Pettingill are also off to a 4-0 start heading into this week’s matches. On the ladies side, we also have three teams that are off to a perfect 3-0 start. Sarah Howland and Barb Moakler are out in front, followed closely by Kara and Misty Marino, as well as Pam Mailman and Brittany Benn.
Enjoy the holiday and all the cookouts with friends and family this week! We hope to see you out here at the course at some point, hitting ‘em long and straight.
