Summer celebrations commence

HOULTON — Summer festival season is here once again.
Midnight Madness kicks off Tuesday, July 3, while the gates open for Houlton’s Agricultural Fair on Wednesday, July 4 at 8 a.m. and for the fifth straight year, prices will remain unchanged.
The cost of admission will once again be $10 per person to enter the fairgrounds and includes all rides and entertainment on site. Smokey’s Greater Shows returns to provide the midway entertainment. An additional $5 charge will be assessed to those vehicles wishing to park on site.
A fee will also be charged to those who wish to park vehicles in the Houlton High School parking lot.
“We are trying to make it affordable for families,” said Paul Cleary, fair president. “If you go to other fairs around the state, we are one of the few that do a $10 pay one price for everything.”
Cleary said many fairs choose to charge one price for admission, between $5-$8, and then charge extra for midway rides.
“The Houlton Fair was recognized a few years ago as having the most kids games in the state, so we actually do a lot for the kids,” Cleary added.
