    HOULTON – Birdena E. Tapley, 93, was promoted to Glory on June 25, 2012 at a Mars Hill healthcare facility. She was born October 8, 1918 at Griswald, the daughter of Harry W. and Julia (Bragg) Ewings.
    Birdena taught school for 25 years in one-room schoolhouses in Wytopitlock, Haynesville, South Amity and Kingman.
    She is survived by her children, Major Sandra Sproul and her husband Jim of Sunbury, PA, Mary Lou Tapley of Westfield, Gary Tapley of Linneus, Brent Tapley and his wife, Susan, of Monticello, Douglas Tapley and his wife, Wendy, of Hodgdon; many granchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and her sister, Rita Ewings of Mars Hill. She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, in 1993 and her son-in-law, Donald Jeffery, in 1991; several brothers and sister.
    Friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Salvation Army with Major Hermas Pearl officiating.
