HOULTON — A new location and bigger building to serve members of “The County” in the Shiretown broke ground yesterday for the County Federal Credit Union’s Houlton branch.
The County, currently serving members at 13 Market Square in Houlton, hired TLA Architecture Services in Portland and Peter Chase’s Buildings Etcetera of Houlton, to design and build a more than 3,500 square foot, single-floor building for The County Federal Credit Union’s new Houlton Branch.
Crews began construction at 247 North St. in Houlton last week. They are scheduled to complete work this fall.
“The County Federal Credit Union’s newest branch will offer members ample parking, a two-lane drive thru, and a drive up ATM,” said Ken Hensler, president and CEO of The County Federal Credit Union. “We plan to add staff to our Houlton branch to even better serve our members.”
The County Federal Credit Union’s current Houlton branch serves more than 4,000 members. The County’s Houlton, Caribou, Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield branches together serve more than 16,400 members in 55 communities in Aroostook County.
“The County’s new North Street location in Houlton will also offer a 500 square foot community meeting room that civic groups might reserve for meetings during the workday and after hours,” added Hensler.
“The lobby of The County Federal Credit Union’s new Shiretown branch will feature a 27-foot replica of Houlton’s award-winning Pedestrian Foot Bridge,” added The County Federal Credit Union Executive Vice President Ryan Ellsworth. “The replica will suspend from the ceiling.”
