HOULTON, Maine — Cary Memorial Library will once again be encouraging children to read during their summer vacation.
This year, the theme for the childrens’ summer reading program is “Dream Big, Read” and for the teens it’s “Own the Night”.
Registration starts the week of June 18-23. Help your child avoid the Summer Slide!
“It’s a fact: reading throughout the summer helps children maintain and build literacy skills,” said librarian Linda Faucher.
The Cary Library offers a “family friendly” Summer Reading Program filled with fun activities and special events. Earn free personal pan pizzas from Pizza Hut, french fries from McDonalds, a voucher for the Portland Sea Dog events, a $10 savings account/deposit from TD Bank, and weekly drawings for prizes. The Rotary Club of Houlton provided a grant enabling all successful readers to select books at the end of the program. Each Wednesday from 3 to 4 we will have a planned activity. Check out the calendar at www.cary.lib.me.us to keep up-to-date for the weekly activities scheduled at the library.
