HOULTON, Maine — A 55-year-old Houlton man was arrested June 6 after reportedly pointing a gun at a woman delivering political pamphlets.
According to Houlton Police Chief Butch Asselin, Michael J. Brewer was arrested on three counts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, which is a Class C felony, after he allegedly pointed a gun at DeAnne Rogan, 53, of Houlton. Rogan reported to police that at 4:39 p.m. man came out of a Hovey Road residence displaying a firearm. The man, identified as Brewer, allegedly pointed the weapon at her. Rogan hurriedly left the residence and in the process of leaving crashed her van in a ditch.
Rogan was delivering Blaine Richardson for Congress campaign leaflets when the incident occurred. Rogan’s daughter had just gotten back into Rogan’s van after having placed a campaign leaflet on a washing machine when Brewer allegedly came outside brandishing a firearm and yelling, the chief said.
Officers Stephen Nason and Richard York Jr. investigated the incident. Police located a Ruger P90 .45 handgun on an antique washing machine outside the residence. The weapon was found to be loaded and one round was in the chamber.
Brewer was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the offense, the chief said. He was transported to the Aroostook County Jail and has a District Court date of July 18.
