DANFORTH — On May 31, five local citizens from Danforth, successfully completed the third Citizen’s Academy held by the U.S. Border Patrol Houlton Station. Participants received classroom and hands-on instruction, regarding the training and programs implemented by Border Patrol agents to successfully complete their border security mission.
Graduating from the academy were Dana Morrison, Gregory Mailman, Eric Young, Richard Benoit and Terry Barnes
The Citizen’s Academy met every Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. for a six-week period. The participants learned about the overall mission and function of the U.S. Border Patrol and the Houlton Sector.
The Houlton Sector Citizen Academies are open to all citizens, who are 18 years of age and above and interested in learning about the Border Patrol’s history, legal authority, mission, operations and partnerships. Attendees receive approximately 15-18 hours of instruction within a period of six weeks from Border Patrol agents and various guest speakers, including other federal and local law enforcement agencies. The hands-on instructions the participants receive consisted of demonstrations and scenarios relating to policy and procedure, and utilized some of the tools of the trade.
The Houlton Station extended gratitude to the participants, guest speakers, and staff at East Grand School for allowing the academy to be held at the school.
