SACS inducts new members into National Honor Society

Southern Aroostook Community High School chapter of the National Honor Society inducted eight students this spring, one senior and seven juniors. As in the past, the students bring with them a wealth of experiences and service backgrounds. Five of the new members have served their classes as officers for at least one year, with four of the five holding office for more than one year.
Many of their activities revolve around the school; sports, drama, Dollars for Scholars and the “Share the Warmth” clothing drives. Most of the students are well known for their participation in the drama program at SACS, along with service with the animal shelter figured high on several lists also.
Kristen Tarr, Katie Goodall and Desirae Dubois listed their involvement in soccer, basketball and softball.  However, these students are also active in the communities in church activities both on Sunday and during the summer at bible school. Joe and Jenica Frazier listed the Island Falls Recreation Department as part of their service; Katie Goodall volunteered at the A. E. Howell Wildlife Conservation Camp; Zac Hartin-Brown is a volunteer junior firefighter and he, along with Beth Bishop, listed service at Brave Hearts as well. Joe Frazier is a member of the Army National Guard. Bree Stover also listed her work with the homeless shelter and the food pantry in her credits.
In addition to her school and community activities, Tarr has also been selected to attend the Haystack Mountain Art Institute.
With such a varied background of service and interests, these NHS members will be able to lead next year in all the projects that the NHS supports. The major project each year, the Red Cross Blood Drive, was not held this year because of a scheduling conflict with the Red Cross. The society did serve in some community fundraisers for cancer patients in the local community.
