HOULTON — For the past six weeks, SADC has been hosting a series of energy-based workshops at the Houlton Regional Hospital’s Health Education Center. Tonight (Wednedsay) is the last in the series.
The past weeks, the group has learned about the history and the economic impact that oil heat has on the County. They have learned what the building envelope is and its importance in lessening heat loss and how to better insulate the home. There are several new insulation technologies on the market today and they were explored in detail with the group. Of importance to the group was learning about alternative heating systems including wood pellet boilers, electric thermal heat storage units, geo-thermal heat pumps as well as solar systems.
Learning about all of this technology is great, but what programs are available to help pay for the systems and envelope tightening projects? Come learn about that this evening as there are several local lending sources that will discuss the various ways a project can be financed.
Tonight’s theme is, “Calculating System Savings and Payback, Financing Opportunities and Incentives.” The place is HRH’s Health Education Center starting at 5:15 p.m..
According to Jon McLaughlin, SADC executive director, “We hope you can come and take part in this, the final workshop. There will be a workable calculator displayed that can calculate your savings in fuel consumption as well as payback time on the installation project.”
