KHS President of National Honor Society
This past year of being Katahdin High Schools National Honor Society president has been nothing shy of exciting.
Before our recent inductions our NHS consisted of six students. Having only six students meant more work, but we were always up for the challenge.
This past fall we officers attended the annual NHS officers’ conference in Easton, and our entire group attended the convention in Wisdom later on. To be able to represent our school during these events is a special opportunity that I, as I’m sure many others, take great pride in. I love the feeling of visiting another school and feeling welcome and well represented.

Taking part in the ceremony are, front from left, Kami Guiggey, MacKenzie Roy, Allison Moore, Jenna Heath, Sonja Williams, Nicholas Pettegrow, Lucas Anderson; and back, Makayla Patterson, Hannah Buhler, Delaney Fitzpatrick and Matthew Cunha. The new members are sophomores Buhler, Cunha, Fitzpatrick, Guiggey and Roy. They join current NHS members seniors, Moore, Williams, Pettegrow, Heath; and juniors, Anderson and Patterson.
I have felt that as president a lot is expected of you. Not only are you continuing to represent your school, but you are the one that everyone is looking up to. I’ve never felt pressured, however because I have had the pleasure to work with a great group of kids.
We have all been so helpful towards one another, and are always willing to lend a hand in upcoming events. This year we get the pleasure to attend and help out with the Special Olympics. This is something new to me as well as everyone else. We are all very excited and I’m sure it will be a blast.
As my days of being president are dwindling down I am getting anxious and a little heavy-hearted. I’ll be sad to leave this school, but I’m proud of all that we have accomplished. We have made blankets for Project Linus, done community service for the Lumberman’s Museum, hosted awards nights, and so much more.
We also can’t forget those eventful times of playing Just Dance during our conventions, and getting lost on our trip to Easton. I know that the upcoming members are going to do great things next year and I can’t wait to see what these last few weeks have to bring.
