Current and potential entrepreneurs of the region are invited to attend an “Introduction to Self-Employment” course offered free of charge at five different Aroostook and Washington county locations — the first course in a series of six classes.
Organized by the Northern Maine Development Commission and the Sunrise County Economic Council with support from the Small Business Administration and the Maine Small Business Development Center, this first course covers the pros and cons of owning a business, the necessary steps to start a business, conceptualizing the major elements of the business plan and provides information on other resources key to entrepreneurial success.
“The two-hour ‘Introduction to Self-Employment’ workshop will help you decide if self-employment is the right choice for you and get started writing your business plan,” organizers said. “The class introduces entrepreneurs to business planning, marketing, and financial cash flow planning as well as addressing topics such as defining your product or service, identifying your target market, analyzing your competition, marketing your business, pricing your products, determining management and professional services and considering financing options.”
“Through this workshop, you will get the structure and support you need to start writing your business plan,” they added.
“Introduction to Self-Employment” will be held on Tuesday, May 29. The workshop, facilitated by Erica Quin-Easter, will be available at five locations, including the NMDC offices in Caribou, Houlton and Fort Kent.
Pre-registration is encouraged as space is limited; for additional information and to pre-register, contact Mary Dahlgren at 1-800-427-8736 or e-mail mdahlgren@nmdc.org.
