Robin Hood is coming to Bridgewater
By Jann Bonkowski Votaw
The play, “Hood Of Sherwood”, is coming to the Bridgewater Historical Hall on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5 through the generosity of the Smyrna/Merrill Historic Society. Shows are at 6 p.m. both nights. Seating is limited so we urge you to get your tickets early. They are available at the Bridgewater Town Office or by calling, 425-7901 or 429-8268. Tickets are on a donation basis.
Since this is a joint project, proceeds will benefit both the Bridgewater Historical Association and the Smyrna/Merrill Historic Society. It is a comedic two-act play and dessert will be served at intermission. We also have a few door prizes. So come on out and join us for a night of fun and laughter. Feel free to come in a costume that goes with the theme of the play to add to the fun. We look forward to seeing you there. Thank you for your support.
Don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for news on when “Outside In” returns to perform Thursday nights 6-9 p.m.

Ricker Rumblings
by Lois Downing
A rainy Sunday, April 22. Time goes by so quickly. We have had several nice days of weather though, so no complaints. In fact, it was so nice Mike, our maintenance man, erected the swings. So now when it is favorable weather, lots of us can get our sunshine on the swings. Thank you, Mike.
I was sorry to learn of the death of Barbara Spellman, my next-door neighbor. She died April 15 in a facility in Lincoln, where she was transferred from Bangor. Barbara had lots of friends and we will miss her. Our sympathy goes to her family and friends in the community.
I went with my daughter Kathryn Hall of Bangor and brother Paul Phelan of Westbrook and attended their sister’s and aunt’s 90th birthday party in Manchester, N.H. It was a nice surprise to a lovely sister. About 40-50 family and friends attended.
Mike Tuttle is visiting in Florida. Mike always said he was going. I was an Easter dinner guest of her niece and husband Aimee and John Brooks and family. About 14 family and friends attended.
Lillian Stairs is a patient at Houlton Regional Hospital. Dot Weston is a temporary patient at Madigan Nursing Home. You are missed Dot and Lillian. My daughter visited for the weekend.
We continue to have a great Bingo every Wednesday. Two of our ladies bring a treat every week and we thank them sincerely. We all look forward to this extra surprise.
Sympathy is extended to Christy Hutchinson in the loss of her mother, Laura Hutchinson, who died Thursday. It is a great loss to lose a mother, so close to us. Eugene McMonigle, a tenant at Ricker Plaza for a long time, died recently. He and his brother lived next to me. Sympathy is extended to his family in New Hampshire and elsewhere. He left Ricker to join the Madigan facility and spent many months there .
I had visits with my son Paul and Linda Downing while in Manchester, N.H. Also coming to see me was my granddaughter Victoria Downing. Nice visits.
Some people in our lives are like angels; their very presence makes our world a safer place. Keep well, safe and healthy. God bless.
Island Falls News
The Country Jamboree, which started up again April 4, has been very well attended and on the last Wednesday of the month there will be a potluck dinner to precede the festivities. Charlene Webb usually bakes beans for this, plus other goodies, and I am sure Clayton will entertain everyone with his singing.
George Dubois and companion, Betty, have returned home to Island Falls after spending the winter months in Winter Haven, Florida, and are now enjoying the cool weather as it became very hot and humid in Florida before they left and was quite uncomfortable there.
Peter Connelly, Sam Sewall’s son-in-law, spent a brief overnight visit to Island Falls recently and in formed me that he expects wife, Cheryl and himself, to be back here in June. Sister in-law, Gail Kennett is still very ill in a hospital in Portland. I have finally decided to stop putting out sunflower seeds as often now, as the weather has improved some and I am sure my feathered friends can fend for themselves now. I think this has upset the big gray squirrel as he was on my tube feeder every single day trying to eat all the seeds he could and this kept the little birds away of course.
I haven’t seen the ground hog around for some time. Hopefully he has gone someplace else to live rather than under my front steps. This past week, we had six deer in my backyard quietly grazing away and ignoring the bread and apples I threw out for them. The crows made short work of the bread, though and during the night something ate the apple pieces.
I also spent a wonderful 30 minutes one evening watching a doe and her two fawns and the young ones had a ball chasing one another all over my back yard, while the mother calmly kept on eating. At dusk, when I could barely see them, they were all together, young ones close to the mother, and no more leaping and running around, until she finally led them off into the woods.
