The East Grand Outdoor Education program recently took part in an overnight winter camp outing on Longley Lake in Orient.
Students learned how to plan and prepare for the outing over several classroom sessions leading up to the outing. They learned how to make a menu, personal and community gear lists, how to stay warm by proper clothing and layering and shelter building. These skills came into play while on the outing as students went out in pairs and built shelters, cooked over an open fire, used their map and compass skills, which were put to the test during a night hike.
