HOMOSASSA, FL & HODGDON, ME – 1st Sgt. Wesley E. Adams Sr. passed away March 11, 2012. Wes was born on December 12, 1932, in Hodgdon.
Wesley was a proud Marine who served his country honorably for 20 years before retiring in 1971 with distinguished honors such as Vietnamese Service Medal with 5 stars, Combat Action Ribbon, and Meritorious Unit Citation. He also received the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with grame and palm, Navy Commend Medal and the Bronze Star.
Wesley leaves behind his loving wife, Julie Adams. He is greatly missed by grandson, Wesley “Michael” Marquis of Bangor; sister, Leverne Stewart of Houlton; and daughter-in- law, Bobbie Adams of Bridgewater. He also leaves behind loving stepsons, Stacy Nelson of Naples, Fla., and Master Sergeant Jesse Nelson and wife, Anne and their children, Thomas and Hannah who reside in Richland, NC.
Wes was very proud of Jesse’s Marine service and that he reached the same rank of E-8.
Wesley is predeceased by his daughter, Connie Marquis; son, Wesley “Earl” Adams Jr.; and their mother, Elsie.
He always made time for his family and stood behind them in difficult times. No matter the situation, Wesley faced it with a positive attitude and a courageous spirit.
Wesley worked as an Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department for 25 years with roles as Deputy Sheriff and Superintendent of buildings including jail and court houses in Houlton. He loved to work and kept working well after his retirement. He is greatly missed by many friends and family in Maine and Florida.
A full military memorial service took place in Florida on March 17. Wesley will be buried in Hodgdon at a later date. Arrangements are handled by National Cremation in Florida.
