Houlton 5-6 grade boys win tourney

The Houlton 5-6 grade boys claimed the East Millinocket Tournament title for the second year in a row.
In the opening game of the tournament, Houlton picked up an impressive, 51-8, win over Milo.
    In their next game, Houlton played their Eastern Maine Basketball League rivals for the third time this season, the Holden Thunder. According to coach Paul Cleary, the Houlton boys had a great defensive effort, controlled the boards and made some great passes, coming away with a 53-26 win.
On Sunday, the Houlton boys picked up a win over Caribou, 53-35, to move into the championship game. Houlton faced Caribou again in the finals and jumped out to a 14-5 lead after the first and held a 24-9 halftime cushion.
The Houlton boys were strong in the third, taking a commanding 32-13 lead going into the final quarter. Cleary noted that Houlton continued the great defense and great teamwork, as the boys finished 4-0 in the tournament with a 42-22 victory.
The Shire boys are 20-0 on the season, with additional wins.
