SHPT Walter Gramour OBAmerican Flag Color    PRESQUE ISLE and HOULTON –  Walter “George” Gramour, 87, died early Monday morning, March 5, 2012, at Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. He was born March 1, 1925, in Island Falls, raised in Houlton, the son of Joseph and Laura (DeGrasse) Gramour.
    A proud veteran and member of the American Legion and VFW, he served in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Sirius (AK-15). He received the American Theatre, WWII Victory, and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre medals.
    After the war, George and his new wife, Beulah (McLaughlin) Gramour, moved to Connecticut. He worked for many years at The Miller Co. in Meriden, Conn. After retiring in 1986, they moved back to Houlton.
    He was a great family man who enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and being “Mr. Fixit”. He was blessed with a great sense of humor, an amazing ability to play cards, and was an all-around awesome person. He enjoyed his great-grandson, Dakota and was always looking into the future with him. His life was filled with many adventures and he will surely be missed. If asked “What’s new”, he would always answer with a smile, “New Caledonia”.
    He is survived by a son and Navy veteran, Allen Gramour and his wife, Bev of Presque Isle; a grandson and best buddy, Lance Gramour and his wife, Amy; “greatest” great-grandson, Dakota Gramour; a special great-granddaughter, Meagan Cloutier, all of Houlton; two sisters, Marion Polchies and Georgiann Morin, also of Houlton; as well as several nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
    Walter was predeceased by his wife, Beulah; two brothers, Bernard Gramour and Jimmy Fleming; two sisters, Gladys Gravel and Alice Gramour.
    In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. Donations may be made in his memory to Friends of Bevie’s World Scholarship, C/O Presque Isle High School, 16 Griffin Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
