PATTEN and MONTICELLO – Wayne Melvin, 64, passed away peacefully Feb. 27, 2012, after a long illness. He was born July 29, 1947, in Houlton, to parents, Walter and Violet Melvin, and raised in Monticello.
As a young adult, Wayne served in the Army during the Vietnam War where he received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. After being discharged from the Army, Wayne studied and became a master electrician. He had owned and operated Melvin’s Electric, Patten, for 35 years, where he was liked and very well respected.
He was an active member of National Rifle Association, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Wayne is survived by his mother, Violet of Patten; wife, Linda of Patten; sons, Wayne, Kevin, both of Corona, Calif., and Michael of Bangor; daughters, Tammy of Patten, Brandy of Crystal, and Amber, serving in the Army at Fort Campbell, Ky.; fourteen grand-children and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by his father, Walter; brother, Doug; and grandson, Gregoire. Additionally, he leaves behind countless acquaintances; business associates; customers; church family; his “girls” from Mount Heights, Patten; and lifelong friends. Anybody that knew Wayne would agree that he was a wonderful man, and he will be greatly missed.
Friends called 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Calvary Baptist Church, Stacyville, where funeral services with full military honors were held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donnie Willigar officiating.
