HOULTON — Steve Cowett has joined the staff of the Houlton Pioneer Times as an advertising representative.
“We are all very pleased to have Steve join our newspaper team,” said Pam Lynch, business manager for Northeast Publishing, the newspaper’s parent company. “His outgoing personality and knowledge of the greater Houlton community and area businesses will be a tremendous asset to our newspaper.”
Cowett will serve as a regional advertising representative for the Pioneer Times, working alongside veteran salesman Dave Bates.
Cowett is no stranger to the newspaper industry, having spent the past 15 years working for the Bangor Daily News in the circulation department. He started working for the Bangor Daily News as a district manager in the Presque Isle area in August of 1997. In September 1999, Cowett moved to Caribou and took over that district until May of 2002.
He received a promotion to assistant regional manager and was transferred to take over the Houlton area. In March of 2006, Cowett was promoted to regional manager of Aroostook County.
“Overall I have 14 and half years of service for the Bangor Daily News in which I helped circulate newspapers on a daily basis,” he said. “It was very challenging at times, but also very rewarding because I liked to give people a chance to improve and better their current situations.”
His hobbies include spending time with his family and pets. He also enjoys music, movies, hockey and his pick-up truck.
“I also enjoy making people happy,” he said. “I am hoping, in time, that I can use my vast experience with the Bangor Daily News to help me with my new position as a sales representative for the Houlton Pioneer Times. I look forward to meeting my old friends with the Bangor Daily News and making some new ones as well!”
Cowett lives in Houlton with his wife of 21 years, Janice, and his daughter Sarah, who is currently studying to be an elementary school teacher at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
