HOULTON — A Caribou man was arrested shortly after his release from the Aroostook County Jail after he reportedly took a van for a joy ride.
Jason Anovic, 31, of Caribou was released from the Aroostook County Jail around 3 p.m. Monday, according to Houlton Police Chief Butch Asselin. At 3:54 p.m., police received a report of a delivery van stolen from the alley next to the Houlton Pioneer Times office on Court Street, directly across the street from the courthouse.
The van belongs to Northeast Publishing Company and had been left unattended and running for about 10 minutes when it was discovered missing.
Maine State Police located Anovic driving the vehicle north on U.S. Route 1 in Hodgdon at 4:54 p.m. He was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital for evaluation, according to Aroostook County Jail Administrator Jim Foss. Anovic, who was not at the jail Tuesday morning, had previously been incarcerated for disorderly conduct, Foss said.
