Rec to install new bleachers

    The Houlton Town Council approved money toward a new gymnasium floor for the Gentle Memorial Building and over this summer, sub-contractor Howland Construction of Houlton ripped up the 60-year-old floor and Space Design Systems, Inc. of Kennebunk, replaced it with a hard maple floor.
    Now, the Gentle Memorial Building will go through the last phase of the reconstruction, as workers install new bleachers in the gymnasium this coming week. The original bleachers were hauled out this summer.
    The new telescoping Hussey Bleacher system is enclosed and ADA approved. The gymnasium will be closed the week of Dec. 19 as work is being completed.
     “Safety was the main concern in replacing the bleachers,” said Marie Carmichael, program director of the Houlton Rec. “They will be a great addition to our facility.”
