Boys squads hit the hardwood for another year

    Several local teams faced off against each other to open the 2011-12 basketball campaign. Each team has its eye on the prize … a trip to Bangor in February.
    On Monday, the Southern Aroostook Warriors were narrowly defeated by host Limestone/MSSM, 51-49.
    Joe Frazier keyed the Warriors’ offense with 22 points, while Pat Goodall tacked on 15 points, as the Warriors are now 0-2 to open the season.
    For Limestone/MSSM, Chris Paradis finished with 17 points, while Nate Tucker had 15 and Brandon Thompson chipped in with 11 points for the 2-0 Eagles.
    The Warriors started the season last Saturday tackling the defending state champion Central Aroostook Panthers in Mars Hill in both teams’ mutual opener.
    The Panthers raced away with an 83-40 victory behind Dan Brewer’s game-high 21 points, including five 3-pointers and Chandler Brewer’s 18. Brendan York and Mike McClung had 12 points apiece.

    For the Warriors, Frazier had 13 points and Cody Lassonde chipped in with nine.
    Also on Monday, the East Grand Vikings slipped 61-34 to visiting Ashland, and were overpowered last Friday by Easton, 76-14.
    Against Ashland, Tyler Levesque and Tyler Chasse led the way with 15 and 12 points respectively for the Hornets. Alex Chasse chipped in with eight.
    For the Vikings, Logan Crone tallied eight points, while Alex Brittain and Kenny Winarski each posted six points.
    In Danforth, the Easton Bears raced away from the young Vikings, as Easton’s Reid Clark led the scoring with a game-high 26 points and Bear teammate Hunter Turner posted 12.
    For East Grand, Neil Noble had three points.
    The Hodgdon Hawks and Katahdin Cougars opened their season last Saturday in Stacyville. The Hawks came away with a 65-52 win.
    Tyler Sherman pumped in 17 points, while Chris and Josh Hudson each netted 14 points and Nick Lunn finished with 13.
    For Katahdin, Colton Bivighouse tossed in a game-high 21 points and Bill Livezey posted 18 more.
