Tis the season for school concerts

    With the holidays fast approaching, a number of local high schools have scheduled community concerts for the coming weeks. The following is a recap of times and dates for area school concerts.
    On Thursday, Dec. 8, Houlton High School’s band and chorus will present their winter concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. A mix of holiday music, traditional literature and contemporary sounds will fill the HHS auditorium, according to Joe Fagnant  
    “Over 130 students will perform as part of the band or chorus,” he said. “Two smaller select ensembles will also take part — the HHS chamber choir “Camerata,” and also the HHS percussion ensemble “Off Beat.”
    Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and donations will be accepted. For more information, call the school at 532-6551.
    Also on Dec. 8, Hodgdon High School will hold its band and chorus concert, starting at 7 p.m. For more information, call 532-2413.
    On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Houlton Southside band and chorus concert will be at Houlton High School auditorium starting at 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted. For more information, call 532-6027.
    Also on Tuesday, Dec. 13, Southern Arooostook Community School will hold a winter concert at 7 p.m. For more information, call the school at 757-8206.
    Katahdin Middle and High School will host its winter concerts on Tuesday, Dec. 13 as well. The event will be held in the school gymnasium. There is no cost, but donations will be accepted for the music program.
    On Wednesday, Dec. 14, the beginning band and choral concert, for grades 4 and 5 will perform at the Mill Pond School, 147 Hodgdon Mills Rd at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 532-9228.
    On Friday, Dec. 16, Greater Houlton Christian Academy will hold its winter concert for chorus and band. The concert begins 6:30 p.m. at the Houlton Wesleyan Church.
