Local high school hoop season opens Friday

    Friday night opens the 2011-12 basketball year for local high school teams, who have participated in preseason tournaments getting ready for the season start.
    The Houlton Shiretowners host Madawaska on tip-off night, with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. with the varsity contest. The game will be broadcast and streamed on WHOU 100.1 FM with Kenny Holck and his crew.
     Also playing on the opening night are: Katahdin Cougars hosting Hodgdon at 5/6:30 p.m., while both Southern Aroostook teams will be on the road, with the girls at Woodland, 5/6:30 p.m. and the boys at Central Aroostook, 5:30/7 p.m.
    On Saturday, the Houlton Lady Shires travel to Fort Kent for a junior varsity game at 1 p.m., followed by varsity at 2:30 p.m. The Katahdin Lady Cougars will host Fort Fairfield teams at 1/2:30 p.m., as well. The East Grand girls and boys will host Easton, with the girls playing at 2 p.m., followed by the boys at 3:30 p.m.

    On Monday, four local teams will be hosting games, with one team playing on the road. The Hodgdon Lady Hawks will play Katahdin at home, starting with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m. The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors will play host to Central Aroostook at 5/6:30 p.m. This game will be broadcast on WHOU 100.1 FM and streamed on the Internet.
    The East Grand varsity girls and boys will host Ashland in a doubleheader, with the boys playing first at 5 p.m. and the girls following at 6:30 p.m.
    The Southern Aroostook Warriors will travel to Limestone/MSSM for 5/6:30 p.m. games.
    On Tuesday,  the only game in the local area is the Hodgdon varsity boys hosting Van Buren at 5:30/7 p.m. The game will be aired and streamed on WHOU 100.1 FM.Pioneer Times photograph
