Carrying on in the family military tradition, Private First-Class Richard L. Weeks recently graduated from the U.S. Army Scout School at Fort Knox, Ky.
PFC Weeks, who hails from Galesburg, Ill. and the great-grandson of Samuel A. Weeks Sr. (deceased) of South Amity, is the latest in the long line of Weeks family members who have served in the active military since 1929.
PFC Weeks is now assigned as an Army Scout in the 1/1 Cavalry Squadron of the 1st Armored Division in Fort Bliss Texas and is looking forward to attending both the Army Ranger School and airborne training in the near future followed by a scout assignment in Afghanistan in 2012. He is currently one of two members of the Samuel Weeks Sr. family on active duty.
At least one and sometimes three members of this family have been in active military service at any given time, starting with Sam’s brother Delmont, since World War II.  The following chart outlines their service and tours of duty in the combat zones of every major conflict over the past 70 years.
