Mapleton – Michael R. Craig, 58, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 12, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. He was born October 2, 1949 in Woodstock, NB, the first son of Ralph and Dorothy (Sansom) Craig.
Mike attended Calvary Baptist Church in Westfield. He graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill in 1968 and enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Lon Bien during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, Mike graduated with a plumbing and heating degree from Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1978. He was a Mechanical Supervisor with Industrial Heating and Piping Co. for the past 35 years. He was a past member of the Pine & Spurs Riding Club, and with his beloved horse Sandy, won many trophies and ribbons. Mike was an avid outdoorsman and thanked God every morning for the beauty that surrounded him. He loved life and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His giving spirit continued by the gifts he gave to others by being an organ donor.
He was predeceased by his father in 1999. Surviving him is his loving wife of 37 years, Regina (Hotham) Craig; two children, Christopher Craig and his wife, Heather, of Mapleton and Jennifer Morin of Easton. He was a devoted “Pa” to four grand-daughters who were the joy of his life, Isabelle, Sydney, Sarah and Cecilia. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Craig of Mapleton; a brother, Lewis Craig of Baileyville; two sisters, Delores Brown and her husband, Dwight, of Winthrop and Maryanne McDowell and her husband, Thomas, of Standish and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends called at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Palmer officiating. A military committal service followed at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Following the interment everyone was invited to Mike and Regina’s home, 378 Griffin Ridge Road, Mapleton for a time of fellowship and refreshments.
