St. John woman succumbs to injuries from crash

    A St. John, New Brunswick woman injured in an automobile crash on Interstate-95 in Houlton has died, according to Sgt. Julie Bergan of the Maine State Police.
    Shirley Haines, 65, of New Brunswick died Friday at 9:05 p.m. at a St. John, N.B. hospital.
    Haines was injured Oct. 17 when she was driving south on I-95 in a 2003 Chevy four-door sedan when she decided to take the median cross over at about 9:40 p.m.
    Also heading south in the passing lane was a vehicle driven by Ann VanHemmen, 52, of New Jersey. VanHemmen’s 2010 SUV struck the broadside of Haines’s vehicle when Haines attempted to turn left into the cross over, directly in front of VanHemmen’s vehicle.
    Haines was the only occupant in her vehicle. VanHemmen and her passengers were not injured.
