New Brunswick woman critical following I-95 crash

    HOULTON — A New Brunswick woman was injured in a two-car collision on Interstate 95 Monday evening between the Port of Entry and the Houlton exit in the southbound lane of traffic.
    According to Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police, Shirley Haines, age 65, of New Brunswick was driving a red 2003 Chevy four-door sedan when she decided to take the median cross over at about 9:40 p.m. Heading south in the passing lane was Ann VanHemmen, age 52, her husband and daughter from New Jersey. VanHemmen’s 2010 SUV struck the broadside of Haines’s vehicle.
    Haines was the only occupant in her vehicle. Haines sustained internal injuries as a result of the accident and her vehicle was a total loss. Haines was life-flighted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.  She was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.
    VanHemmen and her passengers were not injured.
    Trooper Daniel Deschaine and Sgt. Julie Bergan of the Maine State Police, along with Trooper Chad Fuller and Trooper Dave Coflesky, responded to the accident.
    Houlton Police Department, U.S Border Protection and the Houlton Fire Department assisted the State Police at the scene.
