The Houlton High School varsity golf team finished third in the Class C state competition held on Oct. 10 at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro.
The Shiretowners finished with a team score of 368 behind first-place winner St. Dominic’s, 327 and Fort Fairfield, 355.
Leading the Shiretowners’ scoring was Cole McLaughlin with an 89, while Alex Donovan carded a 91, Cameron Clark a 93, Lucas Peabody a 95 and Doug Dickison, 105.
“It was a great day, but the greens gave the team some trouble,” said Houlton coach Marty Gervais. “It was great being able to play competitively at the state level. The experience is something the team will use next year to their advantage.”
Last Saturday, McLaughlin played in the state individual meet at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro and finished the course with an 89, placing him in the top 25 golfers in the state.
