Island Falls News
Sharman (Hoar) Ball has been a recent guest of Marion Hoar. While here she visited with her son, Ben, and also her brother, Harold, both in Houlton and she and Marion helped Harold celebrate his birthday. The fall colors were lovely during her visit and she will take back some wonderful memories when she returns home to Colorado.
I have heard from Mary Lou Pomery about her recent trip to Bangor with daughter, Jane Foster, to get some Christmas shopping done. She says it is the first time she has ever had to Christmas shop in shirt sleeves as the two days they were there the temperature was in the 70’s. It was nice and balmy here in the County, too, and certainly enjoyed by everyone. Cheryl (Sewall) Connelly and husband, Peter, spent a recent weekend in Scarborough with sister, Gail Kennett and husband John, and all enjoyed an outing at a performance of the Portland Symphony Orchestra.
I had a large gray squirrel on my front porch the other day nibbling at a large sunflower head I had there to dry. Plan to tie it to a branch of my cedar tree eventually, if he doesn’t eat it all. I have been busy collecting leaves for my mulch pile before the rain arrived and am now waiting for the leaves to dry out to collect all that have fallen during the heavy winds. Also planning on baking for the up-coming Trash and Treasure sale at the Whittier Congregational Church on Oct. 29. Lots of things to do before the snow arrives. Haven’t seen any deer now for about ten days but am keeping my eye on the back yard just in case. Have a woodpecker, chickadees and nuthatches in my feeders now so am keeping them happy with the birdseed.
