Pentecostal Church Youth Pastors Gene and Bethany Collins led a missions trip to Boston in early August.
“We worked with several organizations in Boston, such as The Wish Project, which provides household items, furniture and clothing to families in need,” said Bethany. “While we were with them, we organized and sized clothing, baby items, bedding and houseware.”
Going on the missions trip were the Collins, leaders Chelsie Smith and Ben Boutilier and eight students — Stephanie Redman, Abbey Quill, Natalie Neiland, Lindsey Watson, Jennah Steamer, Hannah Keller, Ryland King and Quentin Sonderman.
While the group was away they were able to stay at Zion Bible College in Haverhill, Mass.
The group remained busy on the week helping at the Boston Rescue Mission, Generations Inc. and Cradles to Crayons.
“We made sandwiches and then fed 200 homeless on the Boston Commons,” Bethany explained. “We worked with the greater Boston Food Bank sorting foods, which provided meals for over 1,500 families.
“At Generations, Inc. we made folders based on children’s books that are used to pair a senior citizen with a child learning to read as a mentor program,” she added. “Finally, we worked with Cradles to Crayons where we cleaned, paired, sorted and sized over 500 pairs of children’s shoes. Cradles to Crayons provides clothing, games and school supplies to families living in shelters.”
At the end of the trip, the group traveled to New York City.
“We spent the day sightseeing,” said Bethany. “We visited Times Square Church, 5th Ave, Broadway and the Statue of Liberty.”
Also while they were away, the group attended a Boston Red Sox game with tickets donated by the Red Sox as a thank you for the work done in their community. “A thank you also to Subway and Paradis Shop n’ Save who donated to our cause helping to make the trip more affordable for our students,” said Bethany.
They also visited Harvard Square and the Freedom Trail in Boston.”
