Take Off Pounds Sensibly 0233, HOULTON
by Lois Downing

Take Off Pounds Sensibly Chapter 0233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building on High Street on Friday, Sept. 16. Sixteen ladies were weighed including four KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly).
Denise Clark led the meeting and we opened with recitation of “Ways to Success,” and then roll call. Loser of the week was Margaret Hagerman with Joanne Scott as runner-up.
Janette Nelson provided the following information on cheese when mold sets in: cottage cheese and cream cheese are to be discarded. Some cheese when it shows mold can be cut off and discarded and other cheese, this cannot be done safely. Diane Folsom took home the skinny dish.
Most of the meeting was taken up with making plans for the workshop to be in Presque Isle on Oct. 1. If you need information about the chapter, you may call Charlotte Marley at 757-8483 or Betty Ivey at 532-9653. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. after weigh-in (8-8:45 a.m.) every Friday morning. Island Falls News

Recent supper guests of Clayton and Charlene Webb have been Frank Palinskie and Delores, from Walingford, Conn. They have been summer visitors at their home on the Pond Road and now plan to spend some time in Florida. Other guests attending the supper were Harold Willette, Dale Webb and Brenda Willette and all enjoyed the homemade pizza made by Charlene and served by Clayton.
Ed Wood has arrived from Wilton, N.H., to spend a few days at the Wood’s camp on upper Mattawamkeag Lake and also to make a few repairs before the winter sets in. Weather permitting he may also take his kayak out for a trip on the lake. Ryan Bates and family are guests of his mother, Susan York, for a few days while Ryan finishes up a carpentry job in Patten. I have finished mowing my large back lawn and tried to fill as many skunk holes as I could while out there. I haven’t seen any of the critters but there must be a pile of them out there hiding somewhere and deciding what place to dig next. I understand that the former residents of this place used to call the back yard  “Skunk Heaven” because, if he saw one, he would shoot it and bury it.
I am now getting my leaf-catching attachments ready to put on my lawn mower and before too long will be out there tidying up the area. Haven’t put out any birdseed yet for all the hungry birds that I am sure are out there waiting for a free dinner. Had a woodpecker in my cedar tree the other day checking out the empty feeders. Still waiting for the deer to come and eat all the apples that have fallen off the tree by my driveway. So far, only the bees and the ants have been at them, plus a few pigeons.

Purple Hat Society
by Lois Downing

What a beautiful day for a picnic on Tuesday, Sept. 13. And that is what we did. The Purple Hat ladies met at Riverside Park in Houlton and had a picnic. We met at 11:30 a.m. at the park. The ladies all ordered from the little establishment that has been in the park all summer. They liked it too.
Charlotte Marley opened the meeting by greeting everyone. Lois Downing offered grace and the ladies all gave their Purple Hat name.
We signed greeting cards for those who were ill: Jackie Colella’s husband, Maureen Bird and Jackie Kennedy. Charlotte gave us a laugh with one of her jokes! and before closing we ended by doing the handbag quiz. How many of us carry a comb, a postage stamp, mirror, lipstick and many other items?
The next meeting will be October when we will celebrate Halloween at the Chinese Restaurant (A Taste of China) on Military Street. Costumes are optional. Attending were: Joanne Scott and Jackie Colella of Cary, Lois Downing, Houlton. Also, Marie Gillotti, Wannetta Townsend and Charlotte Durr; from Merrill, Arlene Friel.
Also, Peggy Sanders, Cindy Gray and Charlotte Marley from Smyrna. From Oakfield, Evelyn Burpee, Sandra Holmes, Mildred Gagnon, Jessie Barrett and Delores Locke from Oakfield.
If you need information about the group, you may call any of the above ladies or Charlotte Marley at 757-8483. No dues, no stress, just a nice afternoon!

The 45th annual Lenentine Family Reunion
By Jane Lenentine

The descendants of Moses and Elizabeth Lenentine met on Sept. 4 for our 45th annual Family Reunion. Families started gathering at the Monticello Club House around noon and shared their family news with our very own Lenentine Crier Reporter. At 1 p.m. we gathered to share an elegant buffet potluck dinner with the Blessing and a Prayer of Thanksgiving, not only for our food but for our family, given by Phil Lenentine.
Immediately following dinner the business meeting was called to order by our President, Angela Brewer. Attendance included 28 family members and friends from these respective descendants: Burton Lenentine descendants, 14; Guy Lenentine, descendants, five; Clarence Lenentine descendants, three; and Annette Lenentine descendants, three.
Attending were; Phil and Mary Lenentine, Haley Lenentine, Karla Seaman, Harry and Anne Ebbett, Dale McIntosh, Ashley Brewer, Suann Shaw, Paul Raymond, Angela Brewer, Kevin Lenentine, Elva Coburn, Dave Flemington, Louise Lenentine, Hannah Elland, Thom, Sandra and Elka Roy, Burt and Sue Lenentine, Wayne and Jane Lenentine, Alan and Ione Rush, Rebecca Lenentine, Grace Bagley and Rick Bagley.
The president asked for old and new business. Last year, we lost four beloved family members including, Shirley Lenentine, Merritt Lenentine, Walter Delong and Mary Lou Grass. These matriarchs and patriarchs of The Lenentine Family Reunion will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
The president named the oldest and youngest members attending — Harry Ebbett (oldest), age 92 years and 4 months; and Hannah Elland (youngest) age 11.
President Angela inquired who traveled the longest distance to attend our reunion. It was determined that Phil, Mary and their granddaughter, Haley Lenentine had.
The newly elected officers are as follows: Ron Seaman, president; Rebecca Lenentine, vice president; Jane Lenentine, secretary; and Karla Seaman, treasurer.
It was voted and accepted to hold our 2012 reunion at the Monticello Club House, to gather at noon for visits and share our family news then serve a potluck buffet at 1 p.m. We also voted to bring an item for our auctioneer, Ashley Brewer, because “laughter is healthier than passing the hat!”
The treasurers’ report was given by Karla Seaman, voted on and accepted by the family. Thank you Karla. The secretary reported the minutes of last year’s meeting, which were voted on and accepted by the family.
Our Lenentine Crier, Sandra, reported news from each family and updated us on a newborn family member, jobs, travel, education, awards and accomplishments over the past year. She closed with a beautiful heartfelt poem that she authored. It was lovely, Sandra.
Our 45th was our smallest reunion, ever, but very special. We shared great fellowship, delicious food, warm sunshine, warm memories and an abundance of laughter!
