Thirty-six teams teed up for the season highlight Babe Caron Memorial Member-Guest Golf Tournament over Labor Day weekend.
On Saturday, half handicaps were used and Porter Gervais and guest Luke Dempsey were low with a nine-under score. A tie for second found Jerry York and guest Brian Gallagher and Mike Fleming and guest Fred London with seven under, and Gary Stewart and guest Kent Johnson were third.
On Sunday, full handicaps were allotted and Mike Fleming and Fred London fired a thunderous 17 under, while Porter Gervais and Luke Dempsey were second at 14 under and a tie for third between Dick York and guest Ryan Guerette and Jerry York and Brian Gallagher.
The weatherman cooperated with only a brief severe rain holding up play on Saturday. Win or lose, this is a great social event with old friends coming to Houlton for the holiday and few rounds of golf.
Men’s Twilight League champions were crowned on Monday as Gabe Goodwin and Dan Peabody defeated Bob Gray and Jerry York.
In the Ladies’ Twilight action, it was the game tee to green strokes only. Division A winner, Martha Fasulo; Division B, Brittany Benn; Division C, Betty Anderson and Division D, Mary Green.
A very special event will be held Sept. 16-17 called Golf For A Cause Weekend. The purpose is to raise money for the Houlton Health Services Foundation to purchase a digital mammogram machine.
Friday evening, Sept. 16, will be a nine-hole par three, three-person mixed scramble. Registration and happy hour are from 4-5:30 p.m. It will be a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m.
Only one player with a handicap under 10 is allowed per team and each team must have at least one man and one woman. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
Saturday, Sept. 17, a four-person mixed scramble will be held with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Each team must have a least one man and one woman. The total handicap of the two best players on each team must total at least 20. Prizes will be presented to the low gross and net winners.
This is a very worthy cause. Let’s show how much we care for our lovely ladies and sign up for “Golf For A Cause” at Houlton Community Golf Course.
There is a 54-player limit for Friday night and 64-player limit on Saturday.
