Juveniles charged with metal theft
ISLAND FALLS — Three juveniles have been arrested in connection with the theft of metal from the Northern Maine Railway yard in Island Falls.
On Thursday, Trooper Jillian Monahan responded to a report of sheet metal theft at the rail yard. A significant amount of steel railroad spikes and tracks had been stolen according to the State Police.
During the investigation Trooper Monahan determined the steel had been brought to a local metal recycling business and turned in. She quickly developed information on three juvenile suspects.
Later that day, Trooper Monahan located two of the suspects in the area and after interviewing them charged the pair with felony theft of the steel.
One youngster was summonsed and released to the parents and the second juvenile was transported to the Aroostook County Jail and held on a probation violation.
A third suspect is being sought and the investigation is continuing.
Trooper Monahan was assisted by Troopers Dennis Quint and Chad Fuller.
