Recently, the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby received a gift from the Camden-Rockport area of an 8-foot by 16-foot utility trailer.
The trailer’s back end slides open and there is a desk area and it allows storage of equipment.
The volunteers used to sit on the back of a low-bed trailer with a 10 – by 20-foot  tent above to shield them from the heat and rain which served its purpose.

“It’s a lot nicer than what we’ve had, this way the paperwork will not be subject to weather,” said Soap Box Director Chris Holmes.
The trailer also came with back-up equipment, including a public address system, scales, traffic cones, an older timing system and more handicap accessible Soap Box Derby cars.
The utility trailer is on indefinite loan from the Camden-Rockport Soap Box Derby Association. If there comes a time when Camden-Rockport restarts their race, the utility trailer will go back to the Midcoast Maine Soapbox Derby Association.
“We appreciate that Soap Box Derby statewide works together to keep the program going,” said Holmes.
