From the Bunkers: Howland to follow in footsteps of other female golfers

The new season for Ladies’ Twilight League play had 21 players as well as other ladies who played socially — the play of the day was “Estimate your score.”
Division A winners – first: Kara Marino; tied for second: Harriet Gray and Martha Fasulo.
Division B winners – first: Lori Holmes; second: Pam Mailman; third: Cathy Belyea.
Division C winners – first: Glenda Riley; tied for second: Mary Grant and Ethel Mersereau.
Pam Mailman and Brittany Benn provided dinner.
While we’re on the topic of female golfers, Bruce Nason, who along with David Grant, run the junior golf program, which starts Monday, June 27, are proud of some of the girls in the program. Special mention is of Jill Howland, daughter of Jason and Nichole Howland, who as a freshman, played on the high school golf team, follows other young ladies who competed with the boys on the team, namely Whitney Brown, Nichole Eastman and Ashley Cleary. Bruce and David urge all young ladies as well as the boys to sign up for the youth program. Register at the pro shop and show up at 8 a.m.
As for the Men’s Twilight play, which opened the season last week — 28 two-man teams comprise three divisions — the Shanksville Duffers, the Hack Attack, and the Chili Dippers.
Gabe provided the names so he is familiar with the quality of some of the players.
Top point scores were teams of Bill Marciniak, Malcolm Mersereau, Marty Bouchard, Dan Tracy, Wayne Belyea, Mike Kelly. Closest to pin was Greg Palmer. Skins were Gary Stewart and Jerry York.
This Saturday’s four-man scramble should have a good field and a fine social get together as an excellent meal is in the offering.
Invitations are already in the mail for the County Open in August. This is a great event we all look forward to.
The fine weather has allowed mowing of the rough and the course is in excellent shape. Too bad some of us could not be in the same condition.
Keep your head down and swing easy.
