Local ball teams busy

    Last Tuesday in Mars Hill, Central Aroostook jumped to an early lead, but the Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors answered late, but came up short 11-8.
    Kristen Long led CAHS with a triple and double, while driving in four runs, while Rachael Grew doubled and singled to knock in a run; Page Fletcher had two singles and two RBIs and Michaela King singled twice and brought in a run.
    For the visiting Lady Warriors, Olivia Raymond tripled and singled to drive in a run, while Katie Goodall and Shelby Hartin each added two singles.
    On the baseball diamond, the visiting Warriors blanked CAHS, 16-0 behind Chris Casey’s one-hitter. Dan Brewer of the Panthers reached Casey for a single.

FORCE PLAY — Houlton’s Matt Birmingham forces out Presque Isle’s Isaac Lajoie at third base after Lajoie tried to score on a squeeze bunt, but got doubled up.

    Pat Goodall led the Warriors from the plate with a three-run homer, while Jesse Boulier singled twice, as Southern Aroostook scored in each of the five innings.
    The Warriors outhit the Panthers, 7-1, and CAHS had nine errors in the game.
     At East Millinocket, the Katahdin Lady Cougars had built a 13-10 lead after the fifth inning and were barely holding on in the top of the sixth, 14-13. The Wolverines tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and the winning run was walked in.
    Megan Merry led the Lady Cougars with two singles and an RBI, while Bailey McNally singled twice and Mackenzie Merry smacked a two-run single.
    In baseball action, the visiting Cougars shut out Schenck, 17-0.
    Katahdin’s four pitchers — Cody Cunningham, Anderson, Brandon Robinson and Mickey Savage — combined for a one-hitter over five innings. Brady McNally hit a pair of doubles and a single to drive in two runs, while Jesse McNally and Cunningham each doubled and singled.

    The Wolverines made 10 errors, while Katahdin outhit Schenck, 9-1.
    The Katahdin Lady Cougars edged visiting Hodgdon, 5-4 in softball action. Hodgdon led 3-2 until Katahdin drove in two runs in the third to take the lead and hold off the Lady Hawks, who managed a run in the top of the seventh.
    Brianna McNally had a pair of hits to bring in a run, while Myah Smallwood doubled for Katahdin.
    For Hodgdon, Maya Gardiner banged a three-run homer in the first, while Haley Quint doubled and singled.
    In baseball action, the host Cougars overtook Hodgdon, 6-1.
    Katahdin led 3-1 after four-and-a-half innings, but the Cougars tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth for the win.
    Cody Cunningham and Brandon Robinson combined to four-hit the Hawks, teaming up for 11 strikeouts and three walks, while Brady McNally backed their cause with two singles and an RBI. Mook McGraw hit a run-scoring single, while Cunningham and Kolby Gallagher each singled.
    For Hodgdon, Drew Gough, Tyler Sherman and Matt Harmon all singled.
    In Houlton, the Lady Shires were defeated by Presque Isle, 10-5.
    The score was tied at 4-all after the fifth until the Wildcats drove in five runs in the sixth inning to outlast Houlton.
    Abby Kinens led Houlton with a pair of singles, while scoring twice and Alaina Stewart roped a run-scoring single.
    On the Bob Ruth Field at Community Park on Wednesday, the Houlton Shiretowners narrowly defeated Presque Isle, 3-2.
    The Wildcats led 2-1 until the bottom of the fourth when the Shires tied the game. Houlton’s Tanner Caron belted a two-out double, scoring Hunter Hanning with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Caron had two doubles and scored two runs in the contest, while Ian Gervais worked the mound for seven strikeouts, while allowing two runs on one hit (an RBI single in the third) and three walks.
    On Wednesday, the Caribou Vikings outscored visiting Houlton, 14-5 to take the win.
    Hanning paced Houlton’s offense with three singles and two RBIs. Gervais added a pair of base hits.
    The Vikings led 3-1 to open the game and after three innings they led 10-4.
    On the softball field, Houlton lost to host Caribou, 21-2.
    Taylor Bailey hit a run-scoring single and scored a run, while Abby Kinens scored the second run.
    After two innings, Caribou led 2-0, but then erupted for an 11-run second. The Vikings outhit Houlton, 25-4.
    At Van Buren on Wednesday, the GHCA Eagles picked up a 22-14 victory over their hosts. Though Van Buren outhit GHCA, 17-7, the Crusaders committed 10 errors.

    Ryan Campbell singled twice and scored twice for the Eagles, while Ethan Holmes belted a two-run double and Adam Little scored six times.
    In Hodgdon last Thursday, the Hawks pushed the visiting Katahdin Cougars to 10 innings of baseball, but Katahdin pulled out the win, 7-6, on a costly error.
    The Hawks built a 3-0 lead until the top of the fourth when the Cougars drove in four runs to take the lead. Hodgdon answered back in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game and went ahead in the bottom frame of the sixth with two runs. Katahdin tied the game in the top of the seventh (two passed balls to score twice) and held Hodgdon scoreless forcing extra innings.
    In the 10th, Mickey Savage singled for Katahdin, stole second and then scored on a Hodgdon throwing error. Billy Livezey had a single and two walks. Mook McGraw doubled and Spencer Anderson stroked a run-scoring single.
    For Hodgdon, senior Jake Tidd belted a two-run homer and single, while Nick Lunn collected three singles. Ryan Wellington singled twice, while Erik Ryan had an RBI base hit and sacrifice fly.
    In Wednesday’s softball action in Hodgdon, the Katahdin Lady Cougars raced to a 24-4 victory over Hodgdon.
    Myah Smallwood came on in the second to pitch six innings of relief, while backing her own cause with a triple, double and two singles. Brianna Makowski had three singles.
    For Hodgdon, Maya Gardiner doubled and singled and Mackenzie York singled twice.
    The Lady Hawks held a 4-3 lead until the top of the third when Katahdin drove in five runs. Katahdin added a run an inning until they scored 13 in the top of the seventh.
    At Danforth, the visiting Southern Aroostook Warriors blanked East Grand, 19-0.
    Jake Lassonde and Vance Gustin partnered for a one-hitter, combining for 10 strikeouts and one walk through five innings. Jesse Boulier racked up three singles and scored three times, while Cody Robinson delivered two doubles, two RBIs and scored twice. Lassonde served up two doubles and drove in three runs and Anthony Diaferio stroked three singles and scored twice.
    For East Grand, Bobby Cousins broke up the no-hitter with a second-inning single.
    Last Friday, the GHCA Eagles played in Mars Hill and lost to the Panthers, 11-1 in a five-inning game.
    The lone run for the Eagles came in the top of the first when Adam Little’s base hit drove in Deyrell Vargas.
    For the Panthers, Logan McLaughlin belted a two-run homer and RBI-double, while Dan Brewer stroked three singles. Ross Grass singled twice and drove in two runs, while Mike McClung hit two singles and brought in a run. Brendan York struck out 10 over four innings of work.
