HODGDON – Robert J. Nason, 85, died April 23, 2011, at Houlton Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Houlton, son of John B. and Frances (Pringle) Nason.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War ll on a Navy supply and rescue ship in the Pacific Theatre. Before entering the U.S. Navy he worked for Western Union delivering telegrams. He learned to repair shoes while working at Coles Shoe Store. Bob retired from Houlton International after 37 years.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Mary Priscilla (Roy) Nason of Hodgdon; three children, Spurgeon and Nancy (Hemingway) Nason and their son, Matthew, all of Caribou, Sandra (Nason) Wallace and her fiance, David McQueen, of Houlton and her children, Carrie and her husband, Calvin Ryder, of Pownal, Robert of Biddeford, James of Houlton, Shirley of Presque Isle and Preston of Portland, and Rodney and Debra (Mercer) Nason and their children, Derek, Rebecca and Morgan, all of East Millinocket; two sisters, Helen McPherson of Houlton and Mary Voyer of Connecticut; sister-in-law, Marie Dina Tidd and husband, Elwood, of Hodgdon; brother-in-law, Richard Roy and wife, Sara, of East Millinocket; two step-granddaughters, Cathy Ryder of Farmington and Heather Ryder of Pownal; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Emily Rose Nason; and a son-in-law, James Wallace Sr.
A special thank-you to my sister Diana and to all my family and friends who helped and visited during Bob’s stay at the hospital. Thank you to the nursing staff at Houlton Regional Hospital, especially Janine.
A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church, Houlton, with Father David Raymond, celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
