Smith, Barbara J., 75, April 21, 2011.
Barbara Joy Smith, 75, died peacefully April 21, 2011, surrounded by family and friends in her home. She was born May 30, 1935, in Houlton, Maine, the daughter of Mervin and Faye (Bither) Hannan. Barbara was an active member of the Lake Road Free Will Baptist Church.
Barbara was a very caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Though her main focus was caring for her family, she never compromised her faith and was always ready to share in her special loving way.
Mom was a very special person to many people, and was more than a wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved visits from her family and friends. She was everyone’s shoulder to lean on and always knew just what to say to cheer you up. She had quite the sense of humor.
Barbara will be deeply missed and is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ervin L. Smith of Monticello, eleven children; Dennis and wife Peggy of Monticello, Faye and friend Gil of Virginia, Cathy and husband David of Belfast, Melony and husband Donnie of Ludlow, Jane and husband Wayne of Virginia, Janet and husband Paul of Bridgwater, Deb and husband Larry of Wisconsin, Tim and wife Marcia of Houlton, Kent of Houlton, Kelly and husband Garth of Monticello, and Tammy and husband Brian of Virginia. She is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-seven great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Vivian Fortier (Earl) of Virginia and Vina Sawyer of Houlton, sister-In-law Evelyn Hannan of Connecticut, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by many friends and church family.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, six brothers, and four children; Brian, Karen, Karla, Karol and grandson Christopher.
A memorial service was held, Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Lake Road Free Will Baptist Church, Lake Road, Monticello, Maine, officiated by Reverend Carl DeMerchant.
The family would like to thank family, friends and Hospice of Aroostook for their care and support. It was greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lake Road Free Will Baptist Church.
