PATTEN – Herschel H. Cole, 89, went to be with his Lord April 20, 2011, in Houlton. He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Mount Chase, son of Charles and Edna (Lord) Cole.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II serving in Guadalcanal, New Guinea and the Philippines. Herschel worked at the plywood mill as a foreman for many years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He enjoyed working in his garden, his woodpile and riding in the woods. He was also projectionist at the Patten theatre for several years.
He is survived by six children, Sally and Lamont Braasch of Pinellas Park, Fla., Herschel Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Gayna and David McGraw of Mount Chase, Dana and Reona Cole of Alton, Jeff Cole of Patten, and Ruth and Ricky Richards of Patten; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grand-children, six great-great-grand-children; one sister, Shirley Robinson of Bangor; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Pauline (Morrow) Cole; son-in-law, Woody Foster; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Foster; and siblings, Hope, Florence, Gloria, Buster, Charkie, Ellery and Audrey.
The family thanks all of the staff at Madigan Estates Nursing Home for all their love, compassion and wonderful care.
