DANFORTH – Violet May Frye, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, April 6, 2011, at a Bangor hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born May 29, 1930, in Danforth, the oldest daughter of Wesley and Geneva (Young) Cropley. Violet attended schools in Danforth and worked for various employers in the area, including 27 years as head cook and manager for Rideouts Lodge, Weston, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Danforth Gospel Assembly. Violet loved the Lord and served him faithfully all her life.
Violet is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gerald “Judd” Frye of Danforth; one son, Michael and his wife, Margaret of Cary; one daughter, Susan Frye of Danforth; a very special niece who was a second daughter to her, Deloris Cropley Gilman of Hodgdon; two sisters, Veronica Crone and her husband, Robert, of Danforth and Sheila Estabrook of Amity; two brothers-in-law, Doug Frye and his wife, Pat and John Crone; sisters-in-law, Ione Lane, Janice Lee and her husband, Delbert, Una Cropley and Evelyn Young Kinney, all of Danforth, Margaret Cropley of Mass., Glenna Cropley of Houlton, and Wilma Cropley of Conn.; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a mother, grandmother and aunt to many family members who all affection-ately called her “Bar,” and many, many friends. She will be remembered and loved by her ready-made family as a “special” grandmother that she didn’t have to be. She was predeceased by her parents; an infant son, David; five brothers, Tommy Young, Franklin, James, Glenn and Fred Cropley; and four sisters, Anita Barnes, Glenna Crone, Marie Kraulter and Barbara Cropley.
Friends called, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, at Clay Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth. Funeral services were held, 1 p.m., Saturday, at Danforth Gospel Assembly, Danforth, with the Rev. Robert Root officiating. After the service, there will be a reception at the Robert McKinnon building. Spring interment will be at Danforth Cemetery.
