    The passing of John Edward Slater (Ed) of Woodstock, NB occurred on Friday, April 1, 2011, at the age of 61. Born on August 25, 1949 in Woodstock, NB, Ed was the son of the late Marion and John Douglas Slater of Kirkland, NB.

   Ed’s passion in the last 45 years was professionally driving transport trucks where he was employed at Valley Express of Woodstock. In Ed’s early years of trucking, he was employed with Grimshaw Trucking of Alberta, Dysarts in Bangor, ME as owner operator. Ed immensely enjoyed driving transport and working for several companies both in the United States and in Canada.

 

    Ed is survived by his loving wife Donna Davidson-Slater; two sisters, Anne (Derek) Brown of Fredericton, NB, and Jan (Gerry) Benson of Sussex, NB; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ed is also survived by four step-children; mother-in-law Loverine Davidson; four brother-in-laws, Blair (Donna) Davidson, Robert (Mary) Davidson, Terry (Tammy) Davidson, and Brian Davidson. Ed is predeceased by his parents Marion and John Douglas Slater; and his father-in-law Harold Davidson.

    A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from the Scott Funeral Home Chapel, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB. Rev. Dale McDonald officiated with interment in the Hillman-Ritchie Cemetery. Tributes of Ed’s life were shared by Anne Brown (Sister), Chris Carmicael (Stepson), Galen Wilde (Close Friend), and Debbie Murray (Friend of Ed & Donna).  The Pallbearers were Blair Davidson, Robert Davidson, Terry Davidson, and Greg Slater. A reception was held at the funeral home following the service. A very special thank-you to Dan McCarthy, Valley Express, for his kindness and support through this difficult time. I would like to thank all of my brothers and sisters-in-law, my family and neighbors for all their acts of kindness, visits and support. Special thanks to my mother, Loverine, my brother, Blair, my sister-in-law, Donna and my best friend, Debbie Murray. Also I would like to thank Rev. Dale MacDonald and his wife, Sherry for their prayers and visits. On behalf of myself and the Davidson, Slater families we would like to thank Scott Funeral Home for their professional care.
