Southern Aroostook Trade Show opens Saturday

    This weekend, the Houlton Chamber of Commerce will be abuzz, as the annual Southern Aroostook Trade Show will be open to the community at the John Millar Civic Center in Houlton’s Community Park.
    Amid a variety of vendors who will be presenting some of their best offers, special events will be intermixed through the two-day happening.
    On Saturday, no one will want to miss the “Best Pizza Around Houlton” contest. Organizers have invited all the Houlton businesses, along with Linneus, Hodgdon and Monticello to enter their best pepperoni pizza and their best “specialty” pizza.
    At 4 p.m., the judges will try each pizza and then winners will be announced. The remaining pizza will be available to the audience to taste, as well.
    Throughout the weekend, Fireman Fred will be providing entertainment, making announcements and drawing door prizes for various booths.
    Sunday will be a “formal” day. Organizers have asked businesses to highlight their Prom and Formal Wear for a show from 1-3 p.m. If someone is planning for the prom or preparing a special event, don’t miss the show that will feature formal attire to flowers and lots of accessories. There will be special door prizes drawn from the businesses in the show.
    Before the fashion show, a cake tasting contest will be held from 12-1 p.m. Those in attendance will be able to sample various kinds of cakes and view several decorated cake samples.
    Businesses showcasing their merchandise at the fashion show will be Town and Country; Tanning Plus and Specialty Shop, Deb’s, Daniels Florist and Chadwick’s Florist. Hairdressers from Infinity will be on hand to demonstrate the newest hairstyle fashions.
    So, don’t miss the chance to see the latest fashions and accessories and get ready for the “dance” in the up-to-the-minute trends. The newest colors and styles will be featured.
    Not only will businesses have their hardware on the floor, many booths will have a sign up for numerous door prizes throughout the weekend.
    The Southern Aroostook Trade Show hours are Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
