MaCKRO’s High School Challenge races to begin

While Spring is slow in arriving, East Grand students are already out practicing and using lots of caution as the water and air temperatures are still very cold.
This weekend, the students travel to Waldo County where they took part in the first of several High School Challenge races on the Passagassawakeag.
The following weekend, they will be in the Marsh Stream Race in Winterport. Although the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race on Saturday, April 16 is not one of the High School MaCKRO (Maine Canoe and Kayak Racing Organization) Challenge races, several East Grand students plan on taking part.
MaCKRO also donated $750 to the East Grand Outdoor Education Program, recognizing the high level of involvement the students have in the canoe races organized by MaCKRO, which as donated half of its youth fund for the year to the East Grand students.
The donation will be used towards the canoe races, with one hundred percent of the funds outfitting and repairing the canoes, including purchasing foot braces, adjustable racing seats and light-weight carbon fiber bent shaft racing paddles.
