HODGDON — Sydney C. Bradshaw, daughter of Jami Cass of Ludlow and Peter Bradshaw of Glenburn, and a senior at Hodgdon High School has been selected to receive the 2011 Principal’s Award, Principal Clark Rafford. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
“Throughout her years at Hodgdon High School, Sydney has truly distinguished herself in the classroom where she continually challenged herself by taking advanced and college courses that were offered,” Rafford said. “She has been on the honor roll for her entire high school career. For two years, she took on the challenge of being a soccer player and still maintained her high academic achievement. She has been a Peer Helper, a member of the Student Council, and a member of the Student Focus Group for Change all four years of high school. For three years, she was the Student Council treasurer and this year she is the Class President for the senior class. Sydney has also been very active in the community, where she has volunteered for multiple agencies.”Sydney C. Bradshaw
Bradshaw has received Student of the Month recognition all four years in high school. She has also been the recipient of our Golden Rule Award for three years. In addition, she has received many academic accolades in her classes throughout her school career. She plans on studying Pre-med this fall with an ultimate goal of becoming a surgeon, when she completes her post-secondary studies.
Bradshaw, Rafford and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Events Center in Bangor on Saturday.
The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque, a pin and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. Mr. McGowan and Mr. Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association. The scholarship recipients are chosen randomly from those seniors who are in attendance.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 130 Maine public and private schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
