BU-Katahdin-dcx-pt-13SHOW OF SUPPORT — Katahdin Trust Company recently donated $5,000 to Houlton Regional Hospital’s Digital Mammography campaign. Taking part in the presentation are, from left, Barrett Potter, vice president and commercial services officer for Katahdin Trust’s Houlton office; Elizabeth Dulin, executive director, Health Services Foundation; Annette Beaton, vice president and manager Houlton office.

“Katahdin Trust’s generous investment in the full field digital mammography machine will ensure that local residents will be able to receive the latest in diagnostic technology. The people that this machine will serve will have earlier detection and we will hopefully save lives!  The Radiology department would like to personally thank Katahdin Trust for their generous gift”, added Sue McLaughlin, radiology manager.
“Katahdin Trust has always been a strong supporter of Foundation projects and understands the needs that face our local healthcare providers on a daily basis. They truly understand that the Foundation’s mission of “Supporting Excellence in Healthcare” is a passion that never wavers, and this funding will have an enormous far-reaching effect in support of earlier detection of breast cancer,” said Dulin.
For women and men facing the difficult reality of a new breast cancer diagnosis, having access to the latest screening technology is absolutely critical. Global awareness brings vital information and support to those affected by breast cancer, however, the Foundation must play a big part in ensuring local medical professionals have the necessary equipment for superior diagnosis in the field of breast cancer.  State-of-the-art digital mammography equipment will allow for peace of mind knowing leading edge technology is available in the fight against this very serious disease, and alleviate the added burden of long distance travel for screenings.
Early breast cancer detection is an individual’s best protection, and this equipment Will Save Lives!  We know that the earlier someone is diagnosed with breast cancer, the better their chance of surviving it.  Digital Mammography is far superior to film screening by delivering quicker, more efficient imaging, providing physicians with extremely detailed detection information regarding the size and location of abnormalities” said Dulin.
