The Northern Maine Chamber Society Orchestra starts its 26th season of concerts in Presque Isle, Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Campus Center at UMPI. There will be a Sunday evening concert in Houlton at the First Congregational Church on High Street at 6 p.m. Admission is free, however, donations will be gratefully accepted.
NMCSO, centered in Aroostook county, opens its twenty-sixth season of presenting high-quality, classical concerts. The all-volunteer group is made up of local musicians, professional teachers, and advanced students.
The conductor is Waldo Caballero of Orono, also a member of the Bangor Symphony, and director of orchestra study for Orono schools.
Special feature of this concert is an original composition by member Harrison Roper. “Andante” double concerto for violin and cello will be performed by Susann Herold and Rueline Geishecker, for whom the piece was composed in 2000. Other works on the program are “Symphony #96” of Franz J. Haydn, “Light Cavalry Overture” of Suppe, and Matesky’s “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.”
