Mr. Gagnon died Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Piedmont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Gagnon was born August 29, 1928 in Houlton, Maine. He has been a Piedmont resident for the past 31 years. He served two years as a paratrooper in the United States Army Air Corps and served twenty years as a medic in the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Ricker College in Houlton, Maine, served as a patroman for the Piedmont Police Department for four years and retired from the Piedmont Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nellie Gagnon; one daughter, Angel Darlene Anderson (Jerry) of Greenville, South Carolina; one son, Donald W. Gagnon, Jr. of Piedmont; three grandchildren, J. R. Lara, Sonia Jordan (Sean) and Chet Anderson (Carrie); one great-grandson, Bryson Jordan; one sister, Isabelle Holck (George) of Houlton, Maine; three brothers, Arnold Gonya (Patricia), Ernest Gonya and Joseph Gonya all of Houlton, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Dora Gonya; two brothers, Richard and Ronnie Gonya; and one sister, Myrtle Kino.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were members of the Piedmont Fire Department. Funeral services for Mr. Donald W. Gagnon, 82, of Piedmont, AL were Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial followed at the Borden Springs Cemetery.
