United Way speaks at Rotary

HOULTON — Bonnie Foster and Lisa Miles recently visited the Houlton Rotary Club and spoke to the Rotarians about the United Way of Aroostook. Foster explained that the agency mobilizes resources to improve the lives of people in our communities.
According to the two speakers, the United Way helps in the areas of education, income and health. These are the building blocks for a good life – a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.  Funds are received from individuals from workplace campaigns, corporate gifts, grants, and specific fundraisers, such as “Northern Star”.

More than 37,700 Aroostook County residents’ lives were touched by the work of the United Way last year. Many agencies benefit from the United Way. Flood relief, fuel crises, displaced workers, toy collections, community assessments, and the 211 Maine system are only some of the areas that have been helped by the United Way of Aroostook. Their goal is to create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place. Together everyone can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow.
