HOULTON — Houlton High School Principal Marty Bouchard announced Friday that Marina DiMarco, a senior at HHS, has been named a Commended Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented to the DiMarco.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although she will not continue in the 2011 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Dimarco placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“All of us at Houlton High School are extremely proud of Marina and her accomplishments,” Bouchard said. “Finishing in the top 5 percent out of 1.5 million is not something many achieve. She is a fabulous student and young lady.”
